Electronic Steam Turbine Control System
Our Electronic Steam Turbine Control system (ESTC) is designed to replace outdated hydraulic or hydraulic-electrical steam turbine control systems resulting in greater steam turbine efficiency and reliability.
THIS ESTC CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS:
- Digital speed/load controller (Siemens PLC or dedicated device)
- Siemens PLC for control of auxiliaries
- 24/48 VDC UPS
- Speed pick-up (3x) and installation bracket
- Pressure transmitters for admission and extraction steam
- Pressure transmitter for lubricating oil
- Pressure switch for lubrication oil hardwired trip
- Axial displacement measurement
- Safety relay
- Electronic overspeed protection
- Trip solenoid
- Fully wired electrical cabinet with all components built in
- Electrical linear actuator

HOW IT WORKS
The ESTC solves uses modern components that are commonly available, this guarantees support in the future.
After a site visit our engineers redesign the system, this includes modification of the control oil system. Typically the control valve hydraulic actuators are replaced by electronic actuators, these are faster acting, maintenance free and eliminate the risk of fire since no oil can spill on hot turbine parts.
The ESTC can be configured to fully start and stop the turbine, including all auxiliaries. Start-up, synchronizing, loading and MW or pressure control, everything can be configured to the requirements of the user.
MAINTENANCE AND SPARE PARTS
maintenance free, however it is recommended that the instrumentation is calibrated once per year and that the MSV’s and regulating valves are functionally tested. This guarantees maximum steam turbine efficiency for your machinery. The condition of the electronic linear actuator can be tested with the software supplied.
The system is built with standardized components, this means that spare parts are commonly available and lead times are kept to a minimum.
A full software back up is kept in our archives and will be made available on request.
GENERATOR PROTECTION AND EXCITATION
Besides the turbine control Maintenance Partners Heavy Duty can also upgrade or replace generator protection and excitation systems. Calibration of these protective relays (required by law with a 2 year interval) can also be carried out.
SAFETY
The ESTC provides highest safety for machine and people by eliminating the human factor.
Besides the emergency stops controlled by the speed/load controller we integrate a hardwired back-up trip relay. The hardwired back up systems monitors only the most critical parameters, speed, vibrations, lubrication oil pressures, steam conditions, external trip and axial displacement.
The trip relay activates the trip solenoid and causes the MSV’s to shut, also the load/speed controller is tripped causing the regulating valves to shut also.
If any of the critical parameters for the safety of the turbine is not met, the turbine will not start or, if the turbine is in operation, the turbine will shut down.
AUTOMATIC START/STOP
The automatic start up and shut down sequence guarantees that the turbine is started and stopped according pre-defined parameters. Manual operation is only possible with proper clearance, and is password protected.
Cold and hot starts are pre-defined and automatically detected by the ESTC.
