The IECEx system ensures that equipment which is used in explosive (Ex) atmospheres, is maintained safely and according strict standards. Different terminologies such as ‘’Hazardous Area’’ and ‘’Explosive Atmospheres’’ are used to indicate Ex areas. In general, Ex areas can be found where gasses, flammable liquids or dusts occur. Ex equipment can be found in many locations, including oil refineries, oil rigs, chemical plants, paper mills, air separation plants and sugar refineries.

Due to the high costs of most Ex equipment, repairs and overhauls are often more economical than renewal of the equipment.

This certification assures that repairs and overhauls on Ex equipment by MP The Netherlands in Rotterdam are undertaken according the strict requirements of the IECEx scheme and the international standard IEC 60079-19.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corporation ( MCO ) and Maintenance Partners Belgium, a group member of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries LTD, have recently received Mitsubishi steam turbine rotors on a row with damages on the  rotor disc blade grooves, caused by Stress Corrosion Cracking. ( SCC )

All received rotors had more than 100.000 running hours and / or over 400 times starts and stops. To avoid catastrophic faillures, unexpected plant shut downs and long period for recovery, MCO and Maintenance Partners Belgium Division Heavy Duty could submit you an offer to perform a full life time assessment inspection on your steam turbine rotor and casing. This inspection could take place on site or in our workshop in Zwijndrecht, Belgium.

Enclosed you will find a photo report of a refurbished damaged condensing type steam turbine rotor caused by SCC. Technical bulletin life time assessment inspection for steam turbines including several reliability improvements for steam turbines and centrifugal compressors to ensure safe, interrupted and productive operations for Mitsubishi steam turbines and centrifugal compressors as well for NON Mitsubishi steam turbines and centrifugal compressors, like earth strap for rotor grounding, dry gas seals and Sermalon coating application.

As of 01-04-2011, Maintenance Partners’ marine department has become the European OEM Service Point for MHI UEC two stroke diesel engines, which further completes MP’s service package in the global marine and offshore markets.

The start up of the Service Point will include a Belgium-based OEM spare parts stock, allowing you to benefit from drastically reduced lead times. In addition, our marine service engineers are European based, and are available 24/7 to provide service on your diesel engines, as well as any other equipment that requires overhauling, servicing or replacing.

This will bring better and faster service, reducing as such your overall cost of service.

MHI will support Maintenance Partners for continuous training, OEM certification and technical know-how.

This contest has ended. Maintenance Partners congratulates the winners!

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was a partner with Westinghouse Electric for many years. During this time Mitsubishi was licensed to manufacture Westinghouse designed gas turbines in Japan. This experience allows MP to fully support Westinghouse gas turbines as well as FIAT gas turbines manufactured under license by MHI.

Maintenance Partners is proud to announce the arrival of the first Westinghouse W501D gas turbine rotor at the MP4 Service Center in Abu Dhabi after successfully overhauling various W501AA rotors in the past. The W501D rotor weighs over 35 tons and has a length of 10 meters (see photos below).

During the next two months, the rotor will undergo a major overhaul. The blades will be replaced, the rotor will be disassembled, repaired, re- assembled, balanced completely and ready to be installed into the gas turbine to generate electricity again.

This is the second contract awarded to MP to service Westinghouse equipment. We expect many more pleased customers in the near future!
